Friday it was the Killers, Tonight it's the Lips

Friday Frag! and I head down to Webster Hall for the killers
"not so secret" secret show. It was a really good time.
We even stopped by Man U supporters bar Nevada Smith's.
The opener was a band called red romance.
Think killers meets phantom planet w/member's only jackets and wavey hair.

The killers were really good and came out strong.
Almost every song from hot fuss drew instant sing along status.
Mr. Bright Side and When you were young were probably the biggest songs of the night.
I was afraid to take pictures having almost lost my camera and lost my ipod in the last week.
Check out flickr for some really good photos from the modern age, one of meikmeik's flickr buddies. Yeah I know someone took meik on flickr before use. We just decided to say it twice.
The lovely frag? was daring enough to sneak out her razr and take some shots.
enjoy

The Killers-Photos by Frag(MEIK guest photog # 2)

There's Brandon we made eye contact during when you were young!
(possibly he made eye contact with others, der!!!!!!!!!!)

Tonight the entire MEIK! staff plus Frag? are off to see the Flaming Lips at Hammerstein Ballroom. It will be a night full of costumes, giant hands, fun music and a whole bunch of other stuff that I'm not even sure will happen. We'll see ya there.

Emerica Art Gallery Recap!!

Ed Templeton is in that line of cross faded personalities.
He is a skateboarder, owner, artist, photographer, etc...
Last night he put on a exhibition at the etnies store downtown on greene street.
This exhibtion was of photos by Ed and a video by jon miner that covered the emerica camp ride skate repeat tour.
They hit the road on harley's stopping at campgrounds and various skate parks doing skate demos. The photos turned at really good showing differing views of life on the road.
With addition writing from Ed about his motivations and reasons behind the shots.
Here's two of my favorite photos

Eating Jerky and Pop

Heath Kirchart on the bike

Well like most Art openings they like to be a party.
So there was plenty of beverages especially the type from Newcastle!!
I was really excited by the amount of pro's and industry people that showed up.
Andrew Reynolds looking a little tired was chilling on a couch upstairs.
Jason Lee briefly viewed all of the photos with his wife(I thought I saw her) in toe and daughter on piggy back. Greg Carrol of Empire even rolled through.

Here's some of the sightings
Jason Lee is the one wearing the brown sweater. (there he is)

There's a black pug, I wasn't sure whose he was but Pug's are hip.
Seeing it reminded me of former Zoo York Pro Harold Hunter who had one.

On another note dont toss red wine

Well sometimes when you have skaters, beverage, music(great tunes by the way), and a cement floor stuff happens. It just so happened that a flat ground session broke out.
It got pretty sick with some old skook and new school tricks being thrown.
There was a pro photog and myself covering. I opted out of the session to shoot photos after one of the Villa Villa Cola girls borrowed my boards and did some insane trick I'll never attempt. I was practing impossible 180's but it ended when I was about to join in.

So whose up first

This kid took it to the next level. He was busting over 3ft ollie's

Making Lupe Fiasco proud, Kick Push

Go For it or just stay home!

GET Smart! Missed it by that much!

Session starting to get a little heavy

Just about over. to the right baker pro Antwuan Dixon and skaters.
To the left some of the Villa Villa Cola girls.
How dreamy though they shatered my skating ego
It's all good ladies.

MEIK! to the supreme!

Tonight it's off to the Killers secret show.
We not so sure how secret it is if we know.
Hmmmmmm.. MEIK!!!

The Thermals are good in Winter!!!!

The Thermals remind me(ik) of the 90's well at least the good parts.
This is the second group in the last week we found and said hey they're not bad. Actually they're great. Then wham!!!(George Michael Style) they are on the front page of cmj.com lead story. Mastodon previously. Hmmmmmm. I think we have another mole in the MEIK! offices.
And not like the one we had to call animal control on last week.
Dale's office is still a mess. Who knew moles could pick up a tennis racket.
We miss you Dale get well soon and wear a hat to cover the marks.

But back to the thermals.
Female bassists are the thing again as they were in the 90's.
We wrote an article for the short lived Indie9, "Female Bassists are the thing".
The sound is very pop indie rock with some synth added to it for flavor.
A mix of Ash, GUK, and many others who put out 7 inches on soviet red vinyl.
The video is even more dead on.
Single shot/locations videos stuff like Spike Jonze work for Weezer and Wax.
Part performance with some random blips and party shots.
My favorites are when all the people are sleeping on the floor and the paint.
It's almost like an episode of LAUGH IN.
The balloons reminded me of begyrpardon.
I like the jump cuts that make kathy foster look
like she's jumping monty python style.
Here's there fun little clip "A Pillar of Salt".
Stop by myspace.com/thethermals
Tell them MEIK! sent ya there!

Breaking News!!

It is with deep sadness we must annouce a fallen member of Team MEIK!
MEIK! the ipod. He was 60gb's of songs, photos, and addresses.
Last seen on a 192 NJ Transit bus in the hands of Charlie the Intern.
MEIK's Ipod was know for its numerous colorful cases.
Lastly a tan leather case with a cartoon of a cassette player in orange.
Many weeks be shipped off to Apple for repairs not knowing when the end would come.
I life a of traveling the through the city providing comfort during the boring quiet.
It was filled with many photos of Strapp and his favorite bands or awkward moments.
Our last thoughts are that he is either lying the street somewhere, in the hands of stealing child who should check the contact list on it and call me to say where it is, or stuck in limbo in an NJ Transit Lost and Found. Godspeed MEIK! the ipod!

His brother crailtap the ipod shuffle passed on in similar fashion as well after an evening at APT and Hogs and Heffers. Rumors swirled that he ran in John Stamos that night. Police never questioned Stamos who was bearded at that time.

We ask for a moment of silence.
We'll miss you MEIK! the ipod.

Moving on intern Charles M. Markergate has been fired for his lack of responsibility which lead to this action. We're not saying he's guilty but he ain't hanging around here any more. We'll miss you Charlie(Not really).

A memorial service will be held tongiht at B-sides bar.
Come celebrate the loss of an ipod and also the departure of Demander as they are about to hit the road ona super rock tour.

Strapp!

I demander you to go to LIT

Apparently. Yes I said apparently, to make it sound like I just found this out.
Demander is playing a show tonight at Lit around 9:00pm, maybe 930 who knows. They'll be playing with a bunch a bands and then it's a listening party for Mastodon's new record. We'll be sending our brave intern Charles M. Markergate to cover the evening. Charles comes from Novo Scotia, he wears brown shoes and a red hat, makes those boats in a bottle in his free time, and also is a crossing guard for the saskatchawan youth patrol. He looks very much like Strapp but is Canadian and totally different. Buy Charlie a round if you can. He left his camera at home so he'll probably have to draw pictures with charcol and big mac wrappers. Curse you Charlie. Anyways have some fun.

Here's the details from Demander themselves

BYP 7 update

So this is one of two upcoming updates.
Next I have some info on a show and fun time with Zambri.
The 7th installment of beg yr pardon brought some really good bands. Two highlights were The Secret Life of Sofia and A Place to Bury Strangers. Both Bands I have heard a lot about and finally caught them in action. The secret life of sofia find that balance somewhere between The eels and (And You Will Come to Know Us by) The Trail of the Dead. Find time to warp the sound with different modulations along with adding some slight departures will multi instumental additions. Most noticeable in the ukilele and two drummers.

The Secret Life of Sofia

The Uke

Dos Drummers

A place to bury strangers is loud high energy music.
These guys could rock any size venue from a house party to hammerstein ballroom.
Bonus points for the lighting effects, killer sideburns, and flailing.

A Place to Bury Strangers, booooooom!

Turn the amps to 11

I feel this photo best represents their sound
